The fluorescent lights of the small, local Dehradun hospital were harsh and unforgiving. They hummed with a low, monotonous buzz, a stark contrast to the chaotic symphony of panic and pain playing out in Amyra’s mind. She sat on a cold, plastic chair in the waiting area, her knees pulled tightly to her chest, her oversized grey hoodie swallowing her trembling frame.
It had been a nightmare of a morning. The bleeding hadn't stopped. The pain had become a throbbing, searing fire between her legs. She had finally broken down and, through a flood of hysterical tears, told Meera Bhabhi that she had "slipped and fallen in the bathroom."
