
A fresh blanket of white snow had settled over the Scottish Highlands overnight, burying the dark pine forests and dusting the ancient turrets of Vance Manor in pristine frost. The North Sea below was a churning expanse of deep navy blue, its icy waves crashing against the black cliffside.
Inside the nursery suite, the world was bathed in a golden, flickering glow.
